OPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment Exam 2024 - Qualifications, Eligibility, Dates

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has issued a notice announcing recruitment for the post of Assistant Professor in different disciplines (Group-A) in the following institutes under the Skill Development and Technical Education Department:

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang.
Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur
Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar

Online Application Dates

The opening of the online application portal is on 27/03/2024 and the last date of submission of registered application is 26/04/2024 on the official website.

All candidates must submit applications within the the above mentioned dates.

How Many Vacancies Are There

There are 65 vacancies for the position of Assistant Professor in 15 distinct subjects.

However, note that the government may amend or modify the number of vacant positions at any time without prior notice.

A certain number of seats are reserved for women. However, if sufficient qualified female applicants are not available, the same position can be assigned to a male applicant from the same category.

What is the Salary and Pay Scale

The Entry-level salary will be Rs. 57,700, which falls in Level 10 in the pay matrix. In addition to the salary, employees shall also receive Dearness and any other allowances that are admissible and granted by the government.

Educational Qualifications Required (Syllabus)

Application for this job, requires candidates to have minimum educational qualifications depending on the subject. The details are as follows:

1. For Engineering, Technology and Management Subjects

a. Engineering: B.E /B.Tech /B.S and M.E /M.Tech /M.S. or Integrated M.Tech from any recognized university.
b. Management: Graduation in any stream and Post-graduation in Business Administration / P.G.D.M. / C.A / I.C.W.A /M.Com with first division with two years of professional experience in the relevant field.

2. For Science and Humanities Subjects
a. Completed Post-Graduation with 55% (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates).
b. Cleared NET or CISR which is conducted by UGC or awarded Ph.D degree in accordance with UGC.
c. Candidates who have a Ph.D after graduation with GATE / GPAT/ CEED are also eligible for this recruitment.

What is the Age Limit

Qualifications guidelines are issued and reviewed by the AICTE from time to time.

The candidate's age limit must be between 21 to 38 years old. There is 05 years relaxation for SC/ ST /SEBC /Women /Ex-Servicemen and 10 years for PwD candidates with 40% disability on the upper age limit.

There won't be any age relaxations other than those mentioned above. Only the date of birth on the high school certificate will be acceptable.

What is the Eligibility Criteria

The Candidate must be a citizen of India. If the candidate has more than one spouse living is not eligible until the State Government has approved any valid reason.

If the candidate has been disqualified from any exam or interview by the Odisha Public Service Commission, any other State Service Commission, or UPSC, then he/she is not eligible. Government servants (temporary or permanent) are eligible. They have to submit the NOC during the document verification.

Every selected candidate will be examined by the Medical Board. If the candidate is unable to meet the requirements of the Medical Board he/she will be rejected.

What is the Selection Procedure

The selection will be directly through the commission by Rule (a) of recruitment of teachers in Government Engineering College of the state rules 2023.

There will be 100 questions in the written examination, with a two-hour exam period. It will be an objective-type written exam of 200 marks and a Viva Voce of 25 marks. The ratio of the short-listed candidates will be 1:4 for the interview. There will be negative markings for wrong answers.

The syllabus will be of GATE for Engineering Technology candidates and NET for the students of Science / Humanities / MCA / Management.

What are the documents required for verification?

If the commission schedules a candidate for an interview, they must bring the original documents along with the hard copy of the online application form. The needed documents are as follows:

• Higher School Certificate for age verification.
• Graduation Certificate.
• Post-Graduation Certificate.
• Certificate showing two years of professional experience after post-graduation (if applying through Management subjects).
• M.Phil Certificate.
• Ph.D Certificate.
• NET /SLET /SET qualified certificate.
• GATE/GPAT/CEED qualified certificate.
• Detailed mark sheet of aforementioned examination including fail marks if issued by university or council.
• Four recent passport-size photos that are uploaded online in the application form.
• Caste Certificate (if applicable).
• PwD certificate with 40% disability (if applicable).
• An Affidavit by the Ex-Servicemen undertaking that he/she has not been appointed a civil post after retirement from the military.
• NOC in case of Government Servants.
• Any Identity Proof.
• Candidates who change their name after the completion of higher education are required to publish a copy of the changed name in the local Gazette in support of his/her changed name.

What is the Application Procedure?

Candidates must submit their online applications at http://opsc.gov.in No other method will be considered for applications. A unique "Permanent Public Service Account Number" (PPSAN) will be assigned to candidates after the registration.

Candidates are required to take a printout of the Online Application form along with the registration and re-registration form with proper signature.

Candidates must fill in the accurate information because there will be no editing option once the form gets submitted. They are required to upload the scanned image of all the documents mentioned. It is recommended that candidates should submit their online applications as soon as possible to prevent a last-minute rush.

The Certificate of Admission for the written exam will be uploaded on the OPSC website. Candidates must download it and produce it at the date of examination at the center.

What is the Examination fee

According to G.A. Department Letter No. 9897/Gen, issued on 11 April 2022, candidates are not required to pay the examination expenses.

What are the grounds for Rejection of the Application?

The following are some possible explanations for the application's rejection:

• Incomplete application.
• Not signing the declaration in the hard copy of the form.
• Do not meet the age requirements.
• Not fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
• Submission of wrong information.
• Non-availability of documents at the time of verification.
• Any other ground as per the decision of the Commission.
