Though gaming is still mostly done on 1920x1080, the 1440p resolution will offer a more immersive experience and bigger scenery in action adventure games like Tomb Raider and FPS games.
Along with the benefits of 1440p display there are certain hidden downsides as well. First ofcourse is the cost, as 1440p monitors will be more expensive.
But you also need a more powerful graphics card, to generate more pixels needed to render the 2560x1440 display on screen. This usually means that if you don't upgrade your existing graphics card, you can expect to see a drop in your in-game frame rates or graphics quality.
Doing some simple maths, you can easily see how 2560x1440 has 77.8% more pixels than 1920x1080. This means you need that much more processing power.
If you are playing less demanding games on 1440p with medium to high settings you would need something like Nvidia RTX 3060Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 or better. For heavy AAA titles you would need RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6700 XT or better.
However keep in mind that the gpu required for 1440p entirely depends on what games you play, the graphics settings and the FPS you want.
Some games would give 1440p even with mid-level older gpus like GTX 1660Ti or GTX 1080, whereas some games would absolutely need RTX 3070 or better.
A display of 1440p alone will not give you more sharper display. If the display size is bigger then the over-all ppi/dpi will drop. For a sharper display you need a 1440p resolution on a standard size display.
